MATT MALCOLM

(Dec 31 2010, 11:00 AM)

Am I relatively new to all this? Yeah, that would be an understatement! For those of you who do not know me, or have not yet had the pleasure of meeting me, my name is Matt Malcolm. By day I am a 22 year old IT sales geek living in Auckland, New Zealand. And by night I am a petrol crazy, motor mental, speedhunting, zombie-werewolf thing. 2010 has been huge for me. About 14 months ago I picked up my first camera, and typed the first words into a lowly post on my personal blog. Hidden deep within the depths of the internet I laughed at how silly and pointless it all was. Oh, how wrong I was!

HachiRock Festival, Sagamiko Resort, Japan: I waved goodbye to America and set my sights on Japan, having always been a Japanese car fanatic. I arrived in Tokyo and made my way down to Fujieda where my good friend Brad lived. If you saw the post I made you would know that we worked on his AE86 for 7 hours straight, all the way into the night, trying to get it ready for the HachiRock festival the next day. Unfortunately, the axle tore itself to pieces and we were left to drive a Nissan Cube to the event, not really the ideal mode of transport! Regardless, I saw some amazingly prepared AE86s. I snapped this shot as the light faded and we pulled out of the car park and headed back to Fujieda.

Rockstar D1NZ National Drifting Championship, Christchurch, New Zealand: Back home again and this time I am in New Zealand's South Island. Shooting the D1NZ event as Mad Mike gets reacquainted with his first love, his Mazda FD RX-7.

Meremere Track Day, Auckland, New Zealand: Above is a front quarter shot of Josh's BMW E30 after the skies unleashed an onslaught of rain on the already cold Meremere track. Seeing Josh's E30 tear it up with the standard M20B25 motor was amazing. Rumor is that it's going to an SR20DET swap shortly.

Rockstar D1NZ National Drifting Championship Round 3, Auckland, New Zealand: Australian Josh Coote should be very happy with his first year in D1NZ, placing in the top eight in the last 3 events. There is something about the shot above that I just love, maybe it's the determination, or perhaps the shadowy contrast?

Hugo Maclean's Garage, Auckland, New Zealand: Earlier this year I headed to Hugo's place to shoot his brown AE85 Levin for my blog. After the shoot and while we were talking in his garage he decided to show me how his mounts his 195/45/15 tyres on his 9" SSR Longchamps. Using hairspray and a lighter, and perhaps a little bravery he was able to mount the tyre onto the wheels bead in a very explosive display! Don't try this at home folks!

To conclude my photos of the year post I would just like to say thank you for taking the time to view and comment on my posts. 2010 has been an amazing year for me and I can't wait for the new year, so make sure sure to check back soon because we have an amazing 2011 planned!

Formula Drift, Las Vegas: I quickly made the decision to leave Zealand midway through 2010 to do a bit of traveling. With my camera in hand I ended up in America, and travelled to Formula Drift Las Vegas.

C's Garage, Hampton Downs, Auckland, New Zealand: I've always loved motorsports and my first track day was the one above, which took place at the Hampton Downs Raceway.
